Ruling for Grant of Extension in Joining for all SSC and UPSC Posts
Often, many candidates of SSC/UPSC during their appointment asked for some more days/months extension due to their personals reasons.
In this connection DOPT has issued instructions vide his File No :- 35015/2/93-Estt(D) Dated 09.08.1985 by which the Maximum Extension in Joining for all SSC and UPSC Posts is at most 3 months for a normal entity. However Given special permission , the extension can be further increased from 3 to 6 months. So In total a candidate may avail a maximum extension of 9 months ( With Special Permission ) not more than that at any cost. Post after that Peroid , his employment will be made null and void.
Words from Official Circular ( Set of many pages , easily available by RTI ) : –
” The undersigned is directed to say that according to DP & T O.M.No. 9/23/71-Estt.(D) dated 6.6.78 an offer of appointment issued by different Ministries / Departments , should clearly indicate that the offer would lapse if the candidate did not join within the specified period which shall not exceed two or three months. If however, within the period stipulated, a request is received from candidates for extension of time, it may be considered by the Ministries/Departments and if they are satisfied, an extension for a limited period may be granted but the total period granted including the extension during which the offer of appointment will be kept open, should not exceed a period of nine months.”
